In the Russian North are many communities that traditionally consume local biological resources, including both indigenous groups and ethnic Russians whose ancestors moved north centuries ago. Many of these traditional practices changed during the 20th Century as boarding schools introduced new foods and customary patterns of hunting, fishing, and gathering were replaced with wage-earning occupations.
